So no questions to answer on this one. It's just whether you like timbaland or Dr. Dre, and why. Timbaland is quite the producer and alot of people would put him up there with Dre but would you take Tim over dre?

hell yeah! I'd take timberland over Dre anyday. Just something about his voice that makes me just go all giddy. Maybe it's cause he's on one of my favourite songs by Nelly Furtado, or maybe it's cause when he actually does his own material, it just blows me away. He's just one of thoes producers that not only does grate work for others, but for himself as well. I'm not saying that Dre doesn't, it's just in my oppinion Tim pulls it off better.

On this one I must agree with Liz, I love Dre, don't get me wrong but I have like Timbaland from the beginning. Ever since he was with maggoo like 12 or so years ago. He has definitely grown to be one of the world's best producers in my oppinion.

Dr. Dre is timeless. He got alot of producers started so Dre is the best hands down.

Given that Dr. Dre has worked in conjunction with,
Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent as well as several others,
My vote is with The Dr. Dre.

Interesting question Jessica, although I'm not sure you're comparing like with like. I like work by both of them and I'd be interested to know why you put them up against each other because they sit pretty well alongside each other and do different jobs for different audiences.

As a performer in their own right, it has to be Dre. As a producer, once again I would say Dre but that is probably more to do with him being better established. They're both excellent collaboraters and while overall Dre definitely tops Timbaland, Tim runs a close second (if you take those two in isolation. Hey, it's not like one's the bomb and the other's rubbish!

Lonestar, when you say you've liked Timbaland "from the beginning", let's not forget that Dre was writing and producing for NWA and Snoop Doggy Dogg in the 80s and 90s respectively. Timbaland has though, achieved more acceptance in the mainstream than Dre.

As a side issue, what would you say was your favourite work by each (whether written, performed or produced)? Dre's finest moment has to be producing the album "Straight Outta Compton" by NWA, for its role in changing the rap landscape. Timbaland? Well he's never topped his production on "Beep Me 911" by Missy Elliott; the combination of slick beats, harmonies and Missy's lyrics are awesome. If you haven't heard it, listen to it (it's on the 1997 album "Supa Dupa Fly") and still gets played at least once a week by me :-)

I'm really not a fan of those finger snaps and clipped drums of Timbaland's. Even if I did I would choose Dre anyway - his productiosn always get stuck in my head (I have that one piano part from Eminem's Encore running through my head annoyingly). His early stuff with NWA is okay (his earlier stuff with WCWC is laughable) but his best stuff is on 2001 and the chronic (though I don't like the chronic as much as everyone else seems to). I haven't heard that much of Timbaland's rapping but I like what I've heard; Dr. Dre is by no means the best rapper but he has a distinctive style and solid flow.

Agreed with Sean. I don't like most of that kind of music, but it's definitely Dre. I suppose it does have a lot to do with the fact that he's better established. Timbaland's not bad, though.

Dusty, it's not me who puts them up against each other, it's music critics. See, basically Timbaland has learned now to cross over and work with not only multiple artists but artists of totally different genres. For instance, look what he did for Nelly Furtado, totally switching her style and yet it still suits her.
Of course he also helped out JT alot, and if you haven't heard it, the new song with one republic is pretty freaking awesome.
As for my favs from each of them, Hmmmm, I also liked straight out of compton from dre, but I also loved forgot about Dre. From Timbaland I like beep me 911, apologize with one republic, and Aliyah's one in a million.
Don't get me wrong I love Dr. Dre, and you're right, their styles are extremely different, but Timbaland, for whatever reason, at least to me sticks out more to me. Maybe it's perhaps the artists he seems to help out now-a-days. Who knows, but Dre has definitely had some milestones in his career as well.
